When I started this blog, I had no idea how many people I would meet through it. It has become one of the best parts of this blog.
Two of these people have become very good friends of mine. Ross and his wife Marge from Canada, have been involved with the Pryor Horses since 1995. They even made a trip up the mountain with Reverend Floyd Schwieger. I wish I could have been so lucky to share a few hours with Rev. Schwieger. I am sure it was a day to remember.
Ross contacted me last winter to talk about the horses, and then proceeded to send me over 400 photos of past trips he and Marge took, along with all his horse lists starting in 1995. Some of the photos were taken by Ross and some of them have been taken by Rev. Schwieger.
This past summer they both came and joined Amber and I for a day on the mountain. That has become a day for me to remember and cherish. I hope I am able to spend many more days on the mountain with them.
Here are some past photos that Ross and Marge took. I am not going identify them for you. Some I know, some I do not know. I will let you do that for me, if you want. I have labeled them by number and if you would like to identify any of them, just type the number in your comment so we all know what photo you are identify.
With or without names, it is just wonderful to take a look at these photos and see the horses and the range. Several of these photos were taken in the Custer National Forest, where the horses can no longer go.
I will do several more posts with these photos over the next several months. I hope you enjoy looking into the past, I know I have.
I may have posted a few repeat photos, as my eyes were starting to cross as I was looking and numbering them. Please forgive me if I did!

Hi Lola, Yes, many of the photos are from the Custer National Forest side.
34. Think that is Trigger and Mae West? I agree with other comments so wished that the horses could go to the CNF…so much grass.
14 Bianca & Phoenix but I am curious about the foals? Do you know who they are? Still on the range?
I think the roan foal closest to Pheonix is Beulah. Not 100% sure because there’s not a date with the photo.
The year this photo was taken is 2000. The bay filly with big star and snip is Blanca’s. Cloud won this filly as a yearling and you could see her in the second Cloud movie when she is grooming with Cloud and little Flint tries to interrupt them, later this year she was removed. The dark bay foal with the star is Phoenix’s and is a colt called Acalanche. Hi, I believe I have a picture of Trigger as a colt in 1993.
It’s so great to see pictures of the horses in the Custer National Forest. There’s many faces that I recognize from the Freedom Family bands. It’s great to see them when they still lived in the Pryors! I hope one day the horses get to use the Custer National Forest again. It would really be fantastic if the Freedom Families got to go home too. I sure would love to be there and witness them being re-released if that ever did happen. I bet that would be a sight to see! I think I see baby Fortunas in the background of a few of the photos. Is #6 Two Boots and Jackson? Thank you for sharing these with us! Who are the mare and foal in number 3?

The numbers are below the photos, so the mare and foal in 4, is Sabrina, and I believe her foal was named Cheyenne.
The chesnut with the big blaze looks like one of the horses that have become part of the Freedom Fund herd that Ginger manages.
Way back at the top dark bay/black stallion looks like Two Boots. I saw the Palomino (Cloud’s mama) Cloud and Bolder. I think I saw Flint too.
Two Boots was an amazing stallion. Just that one small interaction with him–having him step a step or two further away from me–knowing I wasn’t a danger to him. Watching him not go into attack mode because I was too close. It was a magical experience. In our own little way we had a bonding moment. Pretty neat huh????
Watching Bolder take off for the pond and grazing at the bottom of a hill–realizing he didn’t want any interaction at the time. I was able to understand that each of those encounters in their own way was their own interactions.
