I can tell when I need to take another trip to the Pryors. It is when I spend a lot more time looking at photos from my last trip (or trips). I have been doing that the last several days.
I won’t have to wait long, I will be leaving for the Pryors on Sunday. This time I will be there for 10 days.
There are a few foals waiting to be born, I hope I get to see them. The season is getting late for births, so I hope if those mares are pregnant (and not just fat), that they hurry up and have their foals. Time will tell, and I will certainly keep you informed of any new births while I am on the mountain.
After looking through my photos, I thought I would make a post with some of the photos that I have not yet shared. I know this is the season where there are many more people up on the mountain and many photos being shared, but I thought I would still share these anyway.

I don’t know if we saw Durango when I was out there in 2011. I’ll have to look through my pictures and see if I have one of him. Hmmmm.

I looked thru some pics I knew I had of Durango from my earliest trips, and found one from 09 that shows his missing ear, and also a messed up lip. I don’t believe I saw him when I was there in 07, and don’t know for sure how long his ear has been that way. Matt didn’t seem to know about his lip when I mentioned it back then, so I’m thinking that was probably new in 09. Nancy at the Mustang Center would most likely know about the ear. I’ll email Sandy my pic and maybe she’ll post it for you to see if she gets time. 🙂

Fellow friend of the mustangs and historian, Joy Vancos, pointed out to me that Matt’s first post on the blog at http://www.Pryor Wild.com, was about a fight between Durango and Medicine Bow (where Medicine Bow actually had his family for a bit!), and mentions that Durango was missing that part of his ear then. The post was July 2007. You can check it out in the archives on the right hand side of the page on the blog. I’m betting Tom Dillon probably knows when it happened, (sure wish he were still available to question), or maybe Nancy or John Nickle at the Center. And, Sandy, it IS hard to believe Durango is 18! Just like Cloud. They sure don’t show their age, do they? We should have had a party for him while I was there. 🙂

Thank you for the pictures, what beautiful animals…so peaceful and full of love…I know God has a better plan then what it looks like is being done to our horses, burros and wolves..and I imagine countless other wildlife…thank you guys for all you do for them.
I love all of the extra pictures!! I never tire of looking at them 🙂 Chino seems to be doing well. Did he show any interest in Topper while Corona’s band was up on the mountain? I don’t know if they were even in the same area. Norte is so handsome! It’s so sweet how Topper loves him so much. QC looks stunning in that over the shoulder picture! That’s one of my favorites of her! Great picture of Bolder and Jupiter! Was Jupiter making a legit attempt to fight Bolder or was he just being a typical harassing bachelor haha. I hope we see some Hidalgo babies next year, and hopefully some from Fools Crow the year after that! Love the pictures of Durango too!
Thanks Sarah. I never saw Chino really close to Corona. Probably within 1/8 of a mile or so. But Topper is so happy with this band, I don’t think she would leave. I did not see them up top on my last July trip, but Shawn told me he saw them up there again, just a few days ago. So I bet they are coming and then maybe going back down on Sykes (where you can see that meadow in one of my photos). The forage is good down there and I bet with all the rain, that water guzzler still has water in it. So Corona’s band is using the range like I wish more horses would! It will be nice to be on the mountain for so many days so I can really see what is going on. I am anxious to see if Lariat is with Garay full time now and well, so many other things!! 🙂
I’m looking forward to hearing about many things too! I wonder if we’ll see any other younger fillies try to leave their families this summer. Have all of the K girls left their family bands? Ketchikan is with Gringo, Kindra left, but is missing, Kohl is still with QC, but they’re with Garay…. I think the rest of the K babies are boys right, Knight, Kemmerer, Echo. I can’t think of any others at the moment.

I totally agree with you about some of the horses finally utilizing the range the way the efforts to increase water sources and get them to use the underused forage were designed. If that all can take the pressure off the mountain top and Mustang Flats, it should help prevent the need for a more encompassing PZP plan. Nice of TCF to help out—just so they make sure they find the right mares. Just sayin’.
Sandy, your pictures are like nectar of the gods when we can’t be there in person, you know, so please post as many as you have time for. There will NEVER be too many! There are always very interesting things to see, anytime. And, THANK YOU for sharing. I’m kind of rushed right now, but have to mention that I love how Hidalgo is turning out—and I love that name, besides. And it sure seems like Jupiter is getting into a lot of skirmishes. Maybe he’s working up his nerve to really go on the offense and grab a mare, or filly. 🙂 It’s always great to see a glimpse or two of Naolin. 🙂 And whatever else you get to see.

I know you meant Jupiter, not Juniper, and I’m glad someone else transposes those names besides me. 🙂 For some reason, it seemed like he was the one who tangled with most of the other bachelors and some of the band stallions the most while I was there. More interesting behavior. 🙂
