2015, The Name Game

Odakota, Nickle and Outlawlass, July 2014.
Odakota, Nickle and Outlawlass, July 2014.

It is time for the Third Annual Wild In The Pryors, “Name Game”!  This is the post where any of you can suggest names for the 2015 foals born in the Pryors.  Of course, like on all the previous years, I can not guarantee that they will be used, but it will be fun to list them, and I do know that every time I discovered a foal, I came to this post to look at all of the suggestions.

In 2000, the BLM started using a letter for each year of foals, starting with A.  This year is the P year.  So please feel free to list your ideas in the comment section of this post.  To read more about this system and why we use names, please refer to my Name Game post that I did last in 2013.  Click on Name Game to go there.

I am looking forward to reading all of your suggestions!  If someone else has already posted your name idea, please list it again anyway.  It will be fun to see what the most popular name suggestions are!

Now, if only I had enough time to possibly match these with bands/stallions/mares…

  • Icara or Hera: Perseus (colt) or Persephone (filly) -both are prominent characters in Greek mythology

Fools Gold: Penny-goes with Fools Gold and Nickle really well, plus I just think it’s a really cute name for a filly 🙂

Heritage: Pride, Poetry (kind of a stretch but poetry is very much a part of cultural heritage)

Helenium or Jacinta: Primrose-connects back to their dam, Rosebud

Helenium/Jacinta/Fresia/Jasmine: Poppy (super cute I think 🙂 ) , Pansy, Painted Daisy, and of course Primrose works for all these mares too

  • Persnickitty, Penelope, Persimmon (I know it’s a fruit, but I like the way it sounds), Partridge, Phoenix, Penny, Piper, Pepper. I don’t know the horses well enough to match them, but those were a few ideas that came to mind. Looking forward to seeing the new little ones this year.

  • I like Patagonia (Native American meaning big paw) for any of Duke’s descendants, as Duke’s sire is Bigfoot , I believe? I like Pandora for Isadora. Love Penny suggestion for Fools Gold!

    • Pacifica works great for a Galadriel foal to go along with Oceana and Atlantis 🙂

I think Prancer is quite cute too but I couldn’t think of any connections.

A few more suggestions I came up with….

Halcyon: Pax or Paix (Latin and French for “peace,” respectively)

Gabrielle: Paxton (has the Australian connection to Brumby)

Peyton is a city in Colorado so could work possibly?

Pandora could also work for Icara and Hera.

Other names I really like but haven’t found a connection for yet:

    Piper
    Petah (“golden eagle”) (Black Foot)
    Pakuna (“deer jumping down”) (Miwok)
Poloma (“bow”) (Choctaw) -would go well for a relative of Broken Bow’s

  • Please: Puerto! It’s the name of my own Spanish horse. I Ibought it after my previous horse is fallen into a well and died.
He got his name in Spain already before I bought him. As I saw him I got goose-pimples because of his appearance and his name. He was really a place of refuge (= puerto) for me!
So with this name also the Spanish roots of the Pryor horses would be celebrated!
My horse resembles Jackson very much!
Give my love to the Pryor horses

    Susanne

  • I think there’s already a horse named Phoenix on the range so I’ll avoid that one. I guess you could go with Phoenix II to avoid confusion but I’d rather the horses be given unique names. 🙂

Some names I liked already suggested:

    Precious
    Platinum
    Palladium
    Perlite- volcanic glass
The rest are in no particular order
    Pace- “peace”
Pacifica- Spanish (from Latin Pacificus)- “peacemaker”

    Piera- Italian
    Piper
    Plato- Ancient Greek
    Pluto
Pocahontas- Native American- “she is playful”

The greek mythology names could go well for Hera or Galadrial. Or just of Greek origin for Galadrial. “Pacifica” would work great with another Galadrial filly to go with “Oceana.” But I do hope that Galadrial is not pregnant for a 2015 foal since she had Oceana so late in 2014. Any of the fire related names would work well for Firestorm. The moon related names would work well for a Half Moon foal or a Blue Moon (Flint) foal. The destructive, wrathful, etc names would work well for a Fiasco foal. The flower related names would go well for the mares with a flower connection: Helenium, Jacinta (dam is Rosebud), Freisa, Jasmine (not sure if she was named after the flower), or Juniper. “Primrose” would be especially good for a Helenium or Jacinta filly. The mineral, stone, gem, etc names would go well for Fools Gold, Feldspar, Jewel, or Galena. I would love to see “Penny” used for a Fools Gold filly! Spanish names to go with Spanish named parents. I think the name “Pata Blanca” would go well for a foal that has a relation to Two Boots. I used to ride an ex-olympic jumper named Pata Blanca and he was all black with one white foot (which is how he got his name ), so this name is a special one to me. It could also potentially work for any foal that has just one white foot. “Patron” could work for a Gracianna foal since her mother is named Bacardi. “Patagonia” was suggested for a Bigfoot descendent since it means “big paw” and I really like that!

  • I hope it isn’ t to late to say sind names for the foals

    Paco
    Party Rock
    Peanut
    Pam
    Panja
    Phara
    Panther
    Prada
    Pal
    Peep
