A Day Up The Dryhead, June 26, 2015

Fool's Crow, June 26, 2015
Fool’s Crow, June 26, 2015

I am just taking a few minutes to share a quick post about my trip up the Dryhead, early last Friday morning.  Probably the most interesting thing that I saw was Fools Crow band and Hidalgo band hanging out with each other.

We saw the Greeters immediately as we entered the range, with their new band members, Kitalpha, Nova and Prima.  But as we were exiting the range, I spotted the three newest members off by themself, about 3 miles from the entrance.  It seems Kitalpha has not lost her independance and continues to go off on her own at times.  I pray that they do not remove her daughter and granddaughter on the next schedule removal.

  1. Love it! I love the pictures of the two bands interacting!! Fools Crow and Chief Joseph (in particular) look fantastic!! And Hightail looks wonderful!! 😀 Does Nova still seem to be doing well with motherhood? I, too, am really hoping she and Prima get to stay free. Of the Tier 2 horses though, I’m afraid they are at high risk as Kitalpha was supposed to be removed last removal and Nova/Prima would be a 2 for 1 #s wise for the BLM. Not to mention Nova had a foal as a two year old. However, they are both rare colours, strong bloodlines, and Nova is likely the last foal of Bristol (rare bloodline).

How did Parry seem? I hope he is still healthy. Phantom looks great! Can’t believe I will be seeing these guys in just over a month!!! 😀

  2. Fools Crow is sure a chunk!! He looks great and is so handsome. Loved seeing all these pictures. We don’t get to see pics of these horses often. Interesting the two bands were hanging so close together. Tx Sandy for posting!

  3. Happy to see the Dryhead photos as that is where, except for our trips with you, we spend our time. The weekend of May 23 we saw and have photos of the seemingly very pregnant Nova still nursing from her mom Kitalpha, just goes to show who is or is not pregnant sure can be hard to figure. Can’t wait to see the Dryhead foals our next trip!!

  4. Thanks for the pics and observations. Enjoy seeing each and every one. Hope someone sees some of the more elusive members of the non-mountaintop groups one of these days, too. I’m sure there’s a lot going on down there, but we aren’t going to know much about it. Too many horses, too little time…

  5. Some of my favorite Dryhead horses! I bet the girls were the reason for Fools Crow and Hidalgo’s bands were hanging out all together. It looks like Phantom and Parry enjoyed the opportunity to socialize. It’s sweet to see Fools Crow with Phantom. He’s been so good raising other foals that it’s nice to see him get to raise his own 🙂 It looks like Halo enjoys Phantom’s company too. I had hoped this year would be the year she would foal, but I don’t know. Hickok’s band all looks great! I love little Prima! Hickok has quite the collection of independent ladies haha. Hawk and Joseph look great as well!
