I met Laura Curtis and her husband John last summer. They both were guests of mine on a day tour. This year I will no longer be giving day tours (only camping), but I made an exception for Laura, and probably always will.
Laura (and John) make the trip from Colorado several times a year, driving up the Dryhead to see the horses. They were just here just last week and I asked if she would mind sharing some of her beautiful photos. Here are the ones she sent. Thank you so much Laura!

Sandy, thank you so for sharing my photos. I was happy to see Merlin walking well on his leg that was so severely injured in 2012. Seattle was still thin and looking a little beat up. Johnston’s old leg wound seems to have healed well. Nina has style and attitude, is a real show-off and I loved watching her play; her mom Bakken is one of my favorite mares. Oregon has amazing shoulder bars and leg stripes as do Sacajawea foals. My heart about stopped as I watched Oregon follow Sacajawea up to the top of this ridge with rocks scattering down with each step they took, so I waited a long time to see them come down – safely, thankfully.

Thank you so much for sharing with us! Oh my gosh is La Nina gorgeous!!! She looks like she is quite the feisty little lady with lots of personality! I bet she keeps Mom, Dad, and Cascade on their toes watching her 🙂 It’s great to see Oregon too. She’s got some intense leg stripes! Reminds me of her older brother Hidatsa. It amazes me that her and Sacajawea were able to go straight up that rocky hill.
Sarah, one of the best things about a visit with the horses is seeing the AMAZING things they do out there on that rugged terrain—along with other wildlife. They are very suited to life where they live, and it’s fascinating!
This is a “way cool” post. thank you so much to the Curtises, and you, for sharing. 🙂 Love seeing each and every horse, but it is, of course, a real treat to see Oregon and la Nina`! I’m sure la Nina` is going to be a special lady and I do hope to see her on my next visit. It’s always good to see Merlin, and Seattle. 🙂 Seattle does look a little “worse for the wear”, but I’m sure he’s been trying hard to get his family, or at least Sacajawea, back. Life goes on. thanks again.
