I first met Scott and his wife in July 2012, while I was searching for an injured Lakota. I instantly liked both of them and since that day I have seen them on the mountain many times. So when I saw Scott at the adoption in September 2012, I was happy. I had a strong feeling that which ever horse he chose to adopt would be going to great home. And I was right.
Scott was a big fan of the beautiful stallion Ferdinand (who died in the winter of 2010-11), so his obvious choice for adoption would be Ferdinands only known offspring: Lynx.
I first met Lynx in July 2011. His mother Inocentes was in Cloud’s band then (and still remains there). He was a cute little guy with lots of energy and every time I saw him after that, his personality remained the same. My favorite time I spent with him on the mountain was in April, 2012. I spent a few hours watching him play and “bug” his “sisters”: Jasmine, Kierra and Krystal.
I emailed Scott a few days ago to ask if he would send some photos of Lynx (whose name is now Diego). Here is his report with some great photos! Thank you so much Scott!

Thanks for asking about Lynx, as you already know we renamed him Diego the night we got him home.
We’ve had him for just over a year now and he has settled in quite well with our farmily.
As a matter of fact we just received our Certificate of Title last week so he’s all ours.
We’ve had some pretty extreme weather here in Michigan over the last week, much more Wyoming/Montana-ish than Michigan. While I had to blanket my other two horses, Mr. Diego took it all in stride. His only worry was trying to figure out what his two buddies had transformed into, and why they were making so much noise when they walked. He himself grew a coat worthy of a Grizzly Bear this year.
The frigid weather finally broke this weekend, so I took advantage of Sundays sun and forty degree temps to get some pictures for you.
Diego is a super affectionate little horse.
He follows me around like a loyal pup when I’m out in the pastures which makes it hard to get good pics.
He gets his fair share of treats now, but he’s always been content with a good scratch and some soft words.
Thankfully that made halter training him pretty easy and he stands for the farrier and vet like a champ.
He is just a little guy, takes after Innocentes I suppose. I’ve always thought her to be a cute little horse and “cute” is the first word most people use to describe Diego.
Even though Diego was gelded, I was hoping Ferdinand’s genes might have kicked in a little bit to help in the ‘mass’ department.
Regardless, Ferdinand was one of my favorites and I’m blessed to have his offspring.
Diego shares his spread with our 20 year old paint; Monet, and our 15 year old Palomino; Gideon.
Monet is head horse in charge and likes to keep Diego abreast of any social rules he may have forgotten while on the mountain with Cloud and Innocentes.
Diego finds a lot of comfort in Monet and seems to truly respect his leadership.
Gideon, an introvert, was slow to warm up but was eventually won over by Diego’s relentless charm and constant nagging to play.
This mustang loves to play, and eat, and then play, and sleep, and then play,..
He’s really no different than he was on the mountain.
One of his favorite things to do is softly bite down on Gideon’s hind quarters and slowly increase the pressure until Gideon squeals, turns and tussles.They then go round and round and round. He’s quite the character.
I’m really just very pleased that the three of them get along so well.
Well, there you have it.
It’s not the mountains of WY/MT but he has his buddies, room to move and people who love him dearly.
I hope that helps give you and everybody some idea on how he is doing.

Awesome update. Lynx/Diego was the first Pryor foal that I laid eyes on in 2011 during my first trip to the mountain. He was a little cutie back then. And now too! Seems like he’s fitting in just fine. 🙂 Thanks to Scott for sharing an update and to Sandy for posting. Fuzzy little guy!

I remember seeing him as a foal on the mountain and having a very strong urge to be able to go and hug his neck. 🙂 He was just looked and acted so lovable, and that certainly seems to still be the case. 🙂 So happy for him, AND for his owners! Aww “little Lynx” is not so little anymore! He has become cute/ handsome/ grown up Diego! I would definitely use the word cute to describe him 🙂 he’s adorable. And I definitely see Ingrid in his face. I love the pictures of him and Scott together, you can tell there’s definitely a bond there. And it’s great to hear that his personality is still the same! I’m glad he’s got some great buddies too. I remember that post you did on him bugging his sisters (I enjoyed it too!) and it seems that is still his favorite game to play only now he plays it with Gideon haha. And I love that Scott got a picture of it too! I liked the comment about how he won over Gideon with his “relentless charm and constant nagging to play.” It’s so great to see him thriving in his new home with people who love him and I’m glad to hear he’s still quite the character!

I was wondering, why was Lynx selected for removal when he is Ferdinand’s only known offspring?
Hi Abbie, The removals were based off of the mares offspring, as there is no way of knowing 100% who the stallion is. They looked at if the mare had any other offspring on the range or if she was at the age to still be able to produce offspring. So unfortunately they did not take in to consideration Ferdinand.

Hey Lori! It was a super fun day. I remember lots and lots of horses. They were everywhere! on my next trip out, I’ll definitely make sure we do it earlier in the year. I loved the green grasses and beautiful wild flowers. And that early, the horses are more visible what with the green grass and not as many flies.
