Pryor Foal # 4, April 29, 2013

Today up Burnt Timber Road, Anh and I found another foal.  Galena and Jackson had a filly.  She looks to be a day or two old.  Galena is the 2006 daughter of Blanca and Lakota.  Jackson is the 1998 son of Broken Bow and Two Boots.

Jackson was being very protective of the new foal.  We kept our distance and only spent a few minutes with them.

Keeping with the Jackson foal tradition of naming the foals after cities or towns, we have decided to call her Nye.  Nye is a town in Montana, the state that she was born in.  Here is a great link to a video from CBS on the town of Nye.  Click on NYE to view it.  I think this name is very fitting.

Last year Matt let me name the foal I found (Missoula),  so I am assuming he will also honor that this year.  Waiting to hear back from him, but I am sure these will be their official names.

UPDATE NOTE:  Just heard from Matt and they will be their official BLM name.  Nye, Nodin and Norte.

  • AWWWWW…she is adorable. Looks like a little dun?? And, good for Jackson being protective, he is a good father!! Love the name too!!!
    Thanks Sandy!!!

  • What a cute little girl! Looks like she’ll shed out to be grulla. Firestorm usually foals closely after Galena, right? And what a great trip you’re having! I know you were so excited to get to fnd and name Missoula last year and so far you’ve had 3 this year 🙂 Haha I’ll have to focus on coming up with name suggestions now that foals are showing up everywhere! I hope the rest of your trip continues to be great and I can’t wait to read all about everything when you get back!!! 🙂

  • I love this filly’s coloring. I don’t know what color is and I am not well versed enough in horse colors (plus I don’t really understand the fancy names–I just say black, brown, gray, spotted). I’m not sure how you pronounce her name, so in my head I’m pronouncing Nye like the way you would pronounce it in the rapper’s name Kanye West. Can’t wait to see the rest of the babies (and their names!).

      • Kanye is pronounced Kaun-yay. So I guess I was pronouncing it something like Nyay. 😀 He’s the guy who did the song Stronger a few years ago–it was almost impossible to escape! You’ve probably heard of it.

  • Adorable!!!!!!!!!! <3 At first I thought Kalahari was back, but then realized it Maelstrom! Ha 🙂
    How did Firestorm look?

  • Glad to see those guys all looking so good. 🙂 That filly is beautiful, and so sturdy. I guess that’s what you get from a “beefy” stallion, huh? 🙂 Healthy foals. Nye sure looks huggable—if it weren’t for the fact that she is wild.

    Thanks for doing the footwork to find them, and all the others. I guess Hidalgo learned plenty from his wise old sire, didn’t he? But who knows—things may change again next week—or tomorrow.

    Happy scouting. 🙂

  • WoW, Moorcroft sure has moma Brumby’s “look” now, t00 !
    & Maelstrom grows m0re gorgeous every Day 🙂
    {maybe that’s cuz – I NAMED Him*! LoL }
    Great pictures, Sandy.
