Kelly Addiction

Kelly is one of the horses that was removed in the summer.  She was removed on July 25, 2012, along with 3 other horses that day.

After going through the adoption auction one time without a bid, she was purchased on the second round for $125.00 by Lisa Friday.

Kelly along with 8 other Pryor Horses then made the journey to Louisa, Virginia to Legacy Mustang Preservation.  You can read more about Legacy by clicking on their name or by going to their website: Website.

Shortly after Kelly arrived in Virginia it was discovered that she was pregnant.  And so this brings us to the title:  Kelly Addiction!

After discovering her pregnancy, Legacy Mustang installed a camera so we could all watch Kelly and hopefully be able to witness the birth of the newest Pryor Horse.  You can click on KELLY and it will take you to the camera link.  I must warn you though, it can be addictive!

By watching this link you have the opportunity to not only see Kelly, but also the other 8 Pryor horses that were removed. The other horses to join Kelly in Virginia are:  Lilly, Judith, Kayenta, Kalahari, Klamath, Krystal, Jenny and Kiva.

You may also witness Legacy working with the horses.  Their approach is one of patience and kindness, a method I very much respect and enjoy getting a glimpse of.

So for those of you that are already watching Kelly, I thought I would do a post and tell you a little about her when she was still Wild in the Pryors.

Kelly was born in the Pryor Mountains of Montana in 2010.  She was born into Morning Star’s band.  Her mother is a beautiful grulla mare named Gaelic Princess and her father is Morning Star.

Three of Kelly’s grandparents are still running free in the Pryors.  The other, Plenty Coup, died on the mountain in 2001 after being struck by lighting.

The stallion Prince and his mare Ireland are Galelic Princess’s parents.

My friend Linda and I spent a couple of hours early one morning watching Kelly with her family band last June.  Below are some of Linda’s photos that she took in June.  Kelly was having fun that day playing with Lander, a yearling from Jackson’s band.

    1. Since Kelly conceived in January (if she foals this month), there are probably no human witnesses to who the father may be. If there are, please step up with a photo!! The color of the foal may give us some idea. If Kelly was still in the wild and on my list, I would list the father as “unknown”.

  1. I’m watching it from school right now! I love it already and I’ve only seen chickens! Can’t wait to see some horses! 😀
My friends aren’t so sure I still have my sanity, but they just don’t understand! 😉
    Great idea!

    1. I watch it too while I’m in one of my auditorium classes! Haha the people behind me probably think I’m wierd too!

  2. I definitely have a Kelly addiction to!! You fogot Kicks a lot/Kiva in your list of the other horses with Kelly. Hopefully she’ll have that baby soon! I hadn’t realized that Washakie was Morning Star’s Mom, thanks for the little history lesson 🙂 Oh and Clarissa, Echo is possibly the father

      1. Not sure, but Ginger said she had seen him breed her and told Legacy Mustang there’s a good chance it is his. But, no way to know for sure like Sandy said. Haha I guess if Kelly pops out a little palomino that will be a sign 🙂 At this point I’m just ready to see that baby! I definitely think her being removed turned out to be a blessing in disguise because her trying to have this foal out on the moutain top in the middle of winter, would definitely not have been a good thing for her or her foal.

  3. Great post Sandy! Thank you!!!! I am going to the link now….may just become a Kelly addict too!! HA HA It is ok though, I am a Pryor addict already anyway!!! HA HA. Thanks too for the history lesson, it sure does help.

  4. Who isn’t addicted to this little lady? 😀
I was terrified she would foal while I was away, but here she is – munching away at snacks and food like she’s never eaten before.. It’s incredible how wonderful it is to watch her just eat 😀
And I love how far she’s come in the last couple of weeks when it comes to interaction with the people there. She lets them come up and scratch her now! Yeah she’s a bit skittish, but she doesn’t walk away:) And she always seems a bit lost afterwards when they just walk away.. Maybe she’s surprised at how good it feels;)
