Removal Update, July 20, 2012, #4 & #5

Kierra and Lynx were removed today.  Kierra is the 2010 daugher of Aztec and Cloud.  Lynx is the 2011 son of Innocentes and the missing stallion Ferdinand.

On the BLM website it says that they captured 8 horses today and removed two.  Many of you are asking why they did not remove Krystal. She is on Tier one.  Cloud’s band has 11 horses in it.  They only captured 8 of  them, so she may have  not been in the pen with the others that were captured.

  • My heart has just fallen with this post. Breeze has a special place in my heart. I have been hoping to adopt her if she must be removed, but have also been hoping for her to avoid the trap. I knew the day would be tough when I would see her name on the list of removed especially since I dont think she should have been placed in tier 1. Do you know why they took Lynx who is listed as tier 2 but not Agate/Krystal who is listed tier 1?

    • My guess is 1. Krystal was not in the trap when they captured them or 2. She (and others) busted through the gate before it could be closed.
In the last several months that I have been watching. I have noticed that Krystal hangs very close to her mom (Feldspar) instead of joining Lynx and Kierra. Lynx and Kierra seem to be close, so it is good they went together.

      • Are they not strickly adhearing to the tiers then? I know there were different circumstances with Liesl. I was under the impression that they would gather as many tier 1 horses as possible and if they couldn’t get the numbers they wanted then they would move on to targeting the tier 2 horses.

      • There are 26 tier one horses and they say they are going to remove 30 -40 horses. So I think they may be removing some tier twos at the same time. Again, this is just a guess. Also, Lynx is a priority Tier Two horse.

      • Thank you for your best guesses 🙂 and thank you for keeping us all updated

  • Cloud’s band was the first wild horses I had laid eyes on (2011). Lynx was the first foal I saw. I’m kind of sad. 🙁

  • I remember the day we watched Breeze with you on the mountain top right after she was born. My concern is that there are several others in Tier 1 that live in pretty inaccessible mid-mountain places and will not be caught. Then BLM will jump to Tier 2 & 3 more quickly 🙁

    • I remember that day too Linda. In fact I was just looking back at the photos I took that day. Most of it is on video. I guess we will have to see how it all comes out and hope for the best. I will miss each and everyone, rather they are on Tier 1, 2 or 3. It will be difficult to not see so many. I will be going again in a week or so, so it will be my first time seeing the bands with some missing. I plan on stopping by Britton Springs to see them.

      • We plan to go the first weekend of August–maybe we’ll cross paths again and celebrate the horses we find!

  • If Ferdinand is missing, presumed dead, I wonder why they would take is only offspring Lynx?

    • I wondered the same thing too, Clarissa. Leo is another one they are removing and he is his father, Custer’s, only offspring. Custer at least may have other offspring in the future, but unfortunatly that is not the case with Ferdinand.

  • Oh no.. :/ This is so hard.. Now all we can hope for are good homes for the little ones. I never really understood why they removed Kierra instead of Jasmin? It’s hard either way, but for one I can’t see any other horses with Kierra’s coloring?

  • What a sad post!! I am sure that there are a lot of things I do not understand but mostly I do not understand the real reason for taking the horses out of the wild. Aren’t there enough domestic ones to go around?
