Mountain Update, Foals # 9, 10 and 11, May 14, 2012

My new friend and wonderful photographer  Shawn Ivie  was up on the mountain this past weekend and discovered three new foals!  I thought I would share some of his photos.  But first I wanted to share one of his images of the foal that I discovered last month (click HERE to view that post).  It is a photo of the colt Missoula.  Missoula is the son of Half Moon and Teton.

Now on to all of the new foals.

The first one  is Firestorm and Jackson’s foal.  Firestorm is the 2005 daughter of Cloud and Scarlett (Velvet).  Jackson is the 1998 son of Broken Bow and Two Boots.  This is the second foal born to Jackson’s band the first was Galena’s.  You can read about that foal by clicking HERE.

The next foal is Blue Moon and Halcyon’s foal.  Blue Moon is the 2001 son of Sitka and Shaman.  Halcyon is the 2007 daughter of Blue Sioux and Coronado.

The third foal that Shawn discovered is Greta’s.  She has been with the stallion Garcia since last spring, so the foal is most likely his.  Greta is the 2006 daughter of Belle Star and Chino.  Garcia is the 2006 son of Topper and Tony.

I leave for the Pryors again in just a few days!  I can’t wait!

  • They’re all so adorable! Aw, little kiddos… hope they make it!

Man, but Missoula is beefy – he’s going to be a hunky little heartbreaker. I kind of hope he doesn’t roan out (but he probably will).

  • Now my Nebraska (son of Topper & Tony) has a little nephew on the range as he and Garcia are full brothers.
    Great pictures Shawn!!!
I was out to the Dry Head Sunday and saw Fiero with Kokopelli, Strawberry and Bakken, also Seattle, Sacajawea and Kemmerer way off in the distance, and then little Montana and Fresia..also way off in the distance. Montana was taking a nap, I could see in my binocks, but way too far to take a picture. I will be going up Burnt Timber real soon too!!!

  • Missoula sure is good-lookin’ and Firestorm’s foal looks full of energy! Good things happening on the range. Much excitement in the air… hope next week is just the same 🙂

  • Hope there will be more new foals when you go out next week!! I hope we get the names to all the new foals soon.

Hey by the way, what do you know of Chino? He’s one I don’t hear a lot about.

    • I saw Chino last fall. He still had his mares Topper 1 and Topper 2. He lost them in the summer of 2010, but got them back that winter. Last fall when I saw him he was chasing Galaxy away. Galaxy was pushing pretty hard. It seems like I just heard someone mention him. If I remember what they said I will let you know!

      • Do you know who Chino’s parents were? I wonder if he’s related to Cloud.

Oh! Also do you know what color Greta is? Sooty Buckskin like Dove or brown?

        Thanks!! 🙂

    • I saw Chino and the 2 Toppers up on Cheyenne flats, heading across and probably down to the water tank just off the edge of it. They all looked like they are doing well.

  • All of the foals are so cute! Flint’s foal looks so much like he did as a baby, so much!
Missoula is still so adorable. I love his color 🙂 Firestorm’s foal does look so full of energy!

  • The new foals are all so fine looking! Of course, I’m a little partial to Jackson and Firestorm’s little dude. Is that LeDoux with the new foal in the one pic? If so, he has really lightened up with the winter coat. Thanks to Shawn for sharing. : )
